WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THOSE SKINNY TASTE BAGELS
If you are the kind of person who does things like “try to watch your weight” or “try to eat healthier this year, damnit, no really, for real this time,” you may have seen this recipe for “Easy Bagel Recipe” from Skinnytaste all over your Facebook feed.
I’m here to bring you the good news. These “bagels” only take five ingredients (you might already have all of these in your pantry and refrigerator) and you can bake them in your oven like a normal person. And I think they are delightful and so do many of my friends who have tried them.
I use quotations around “bagels” because some of my Facebook friends from New York and New Jersey and other East Coast cities have rightfully defended real bagels, telling me not to fuck with them. I grew up in Texas, so I have absolutely no skin in this game, but I will tell you that these “bagels” are relatively guilt-free and delicious.
Here are few more reasons why I like them:
You won’t get sick of them - I’m a single lady who lives alone and does not need to bake a dozen of something to get some satisfying low-carb action in. The recipe make 4 mini-”bagels” and that’s just enough for a week of eating them at work without having to throw anything away.
You can put whatever you want on them - I went the savory route and used sea salt, freshly ground pepper, and a little garlic salt on mine. I topped them with a chickpea spread and had them with cut carrots for a delicious and satisfying little snack. I know other folks how have gone the sweet route with butter and jam. The world is your oyster, darling.
They didn’t get stale easily - I guess this depends on what you like in a bagel, but mine remained delightfully fluffy, making them easy to cut into and enjoy without cracking a molar. If you like something with less give, you can bake them a little longer.
They satisfied that carby/savory craving - Usually at about 2:30pm on a workday, I want something substantial for a snack, to keep me less desperate for dinner, which seems hours and hours away. These did the trick. I encourage you to see what all the fuss is about for yourself.
