Hiiiiiiiiii DRAMA (PROJECT RUNWAY RECAP)
What a shame drama doesn't burn calories. Last week would have helped you drop a pound or two. AND THIS WEEK? Girl. Hold on to your hat. How's that for a little foreshadowing? BUCKLE UP, MOMMA.
Blah blah blah. We left the twins last week as they were asked to do a one hour challenge to determine which of them should go home. We return this week with our hearts in our throats and our blood pressure so high it's knockin' on Jesus's bedroom door. The girls have been given fabric and from what I can tell ... the only instructions are MAKE IT WORK, BISH. Well, that's not entirely true, they're not allowed to help each other ... otherwise CRANK OUT SOME FASHION.
The workroom gets real hot REAL QUICK. Baldy complains a lot, makes a ton of noise, cries, knocks ever a dress form ... it's like watching a dog in a cage who's trying to not pee themselves. SHES A MESSSSSSSS with a capital TAKE A XANAX. Meanwhile ... twin sister friend is cranking out a dress. Baldy gets so worked up she calls for Tim and tells him that Claire (yeah girl, she's got a name) should stay in the competition. Both sisters are crying at this point and Tim is beside himself. He has the sisters go out to the runway and talk to the judges. Again Baldy concedes. There's A LOTTTTTTT of feelings and emotion. Even Tim is crying. I don't know you guys. I guess I get it. Though ... these are grown-ass people ... surely thisn't the first time they've been separated. Like ... this isn't the opening scene to the Color Purple ... PULL IT TOGETHA. Mostly, I'm ready for this crap to end ... Can we make some clothes please?
SHAZAM. Just like that it's the next morning and Tim announces that the designers will be dressing "women on the go" this week. Don't you love these random phrases they give us to describe a challenge ... that really mean NOTHING? The whole challenge sounds like ZERO until we see a video of crew members from the show nominating friends to be "clients" for the challenge. It's moving and cute AF. The second part of the challenge, because ... isn't there always another layer ... is the designers have to create a print that will be made for them to use in this week's look.
Everyone gets right to work with their models, and the consultations are funny. These clients are not afraid to express themselves in the way you might be expecting. Though I guess I wouldn't be either. This is your shot to be seen on Project Runway, you better make it work!
The work room is very different without both twins there. Claire is clearly lost without her sister. She literally sits in the break room and talks to the walls the same way she would if her sister were sitting there with here. It's sad. FINE. Being a twin is hard. I GET IT.
Claire gets moving a little and as we begin to see what she’s working on it becomes clear that her look is strikingly similar to what Margarita designed last week. The top is pleated to the side, almost exactly like Margarita’s shirt dress. I mean ... I GUESS? Margarita notices this similarity almost instantly of course, and spirals out about it. Margarita is working on her look, but also running around complaining about Claire. WHO WOULDN’T BE. I’d snatch that girl’s wig. Though ... EYES ON YOUR OWN PAPER DO NOT LET THE STRESS GETCHU DOWN!
Tim brings the models in and they consult with the designers. Many of them are happy with the progress that is being made on their looks, so happy there are tears of joy in the workroom. As everyone is talking Tim takes a tour of the room and talks about the clothes with the designers. The wildest thing we see? Brandon is making a pencil skirt.
A SKIRT YOU GUYS. BRANDON. I can’t wait to see that on the runway.
Tim has some serious critiques for the designers. Batani Has a model that wants color, but her design is grey. Kentaro has a beautiful dress but it doesn’t show any of his personality. Claire’s look has gimmicky parts. Ayana has unnecessary pants that are supposed to go under a skirt. He is editing all over the place ... and he's RIGHHHHHT.
While Tim is giving us Fairy Godmother realness ... tension is building in the room. Yes, girl. This Margarita/Claire situation is reaching a fever pitch. Clair is alone and feeling needy WHILE Margarita is about to lose her dang mind because she feels like she's being copied. As time goes on ... nobody is saying anything about how the looks are the same or similar. Michael gets real deep into the drama, of course he does he and Marg are basically sisters at this point. He's also super annoyed. It's a mess and everything is terrible. Margarita has herself so worked up she's pinning things wrong and messy in general. I'm scared something real dumb is going to happen.
Everyone is really working until the last minute on this challenge. It doesn’t feel like any one designer is way ahead of anyone else. When the models come in they seem happy with their looks. Though, you know this is always the most positive moment of the show. We’ll find out what’s really going on once these ladies hit the cat walk.
This week’s guest judge is Yolanda Hadid former wife of David Foster and former star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She looks good, I hope she's feeling better but like ... DANG. She sure changed her last name fast. David Foster must have really messed her up. LOL! She has a book? I guess she's gonna try to be the next Kris Jenner now that she has these baby models running around everywhere. All I wanna say is ... THANK THE LORD ABOVE SHES OFF MY PRECIOUS HOUSEWIVES ... she was a hot mess. Whew LORD.
It’s a fun runway. It’s always fun to see REAL … like actual REAL people walk the runway on this show. The critiques go well, until we get to Margarita. She apologizes for her look, even though she has immunity for this challenge. She mentions that she got detracted and Heidi of course asks her what she means, but Marg won’t say anything about why she struggled.
Margarita is in the bottom with Michael and Batani and in the top we have Kentaro, Claire, and Kenya. The judges do their thing like usual and it's mostly unremarkable. Tensions are still high ... which I sorta get but this final look is not the same as Margarita's look from last week. Then everyone comes back to the runway and Claire is named as the winner of the week's challenge.
As the winner is announced ... Michael leaves the runway. Like ... walks off set ... it's a real Dynasty moment. He tells a crew member as he gets backstage, “I came to play fair and there’s no fairness in this game.”
Tim rushes over to Michael completely baffled and Michael tells him again that this winning look lacks fairness. WHILE THIS IS HAPPENING? Heidi is BEGGING someone to tell her what's going on, and and all Margarita says is “None of us want to point fingers.”
MKAYYYYY. I guess I get it? Claire did get a lot of help all season, and that is SUPER annoying, but the look that won isn't something that she ripped off? I know where Margarita and Michael are coming from but it's silly drama. My only concern is Kentaro clearly should have won. Enough with the high school BS you guys. CAN WE JUST MAKE CLOTHES NOW? GAHHHHH. The designs and clothes are enough drama for me, but then again ... I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!
